On 6.06.1863, a battle took place between a well-organised but small insurgent unit and the Tsarist army. Zygmunt Cytowicz, the head of the Rosieńsk insurgent unit, was killed during the skirmish. In 1930, to commemorate this event, a stone dedicated to the insurgents was set up north of the town, on the road to Šiauliai. The inscription on the boulder reads: "1863 Sukileliu kapai" ["1863 insurgents' cemetery"].
