Boryslav cemetery

Borysław | Ukraine
ukr. Borysław (Борислав)
The old Boryslav cemetery ceased to exist in the early 1990s. It was located in the immediate vicinity of St Barbara's parish church. However, there is also another cemetery in Boryslav, on what is known as Hukowa Gora, located 2.5 km from the old one. It is mostly overgrown with vegetation and is closed.
The oldest tombstones date from the late 19th century, which may indicate the period when this necropolis was founded. According to Hauser, the monuments are interesting, despite their lack of artistic value. They are dominated by cast-iron crosses, "under which rest, among others, former employees of the Boryslav oil basin and salines". The author mentions the tombstones of: "Stefania Rogowska (d. 1932), crowned with a sculpture of a kneeling angel under the cross", "Adam Burczymuchy Pałaszewski (d. 1931), mine manager, participant in the 1963 uprising" or Jozef Lorenc (d. 1932) - "rocks crowned with a sculpture of a dancing angel".
In 2007 (when Hauser's book was published), the devastation of the cemetery continued, specifically the construction of sheds and latrines in its vicinity.
