In 2018, the parish church of the Elevation of the Holy Cross in Brzozdowce underwent salvage conservation of an 18th-century wooden statue of St Peter, which came from a nonpreserved pulpit in the form of a boat.

The bust-shaped sculpture was made of linden wood using carving chisels and then covered with a layer of chalk-glue mortar. It is likely that the surface of the sculpture was partially polychrome and silvered. At present, this is difficult to discern due to the very poorly preserved top technological layers.

Before conservation, the sculpture was in a terrible state of preservation, on the verge of total destruction. The wood structure had been destroyed by woodlice and fungi.

As part of the conservation work, structural impregnation of the wood was carried out, as well as strengthening and filling of joints and cracks. The detached pieces of the sculpture were pre-bonded using synthetic resin, and large cavities were filled with resin with inserts of lime wood blocks. After curing, the surface was pre-treated with chisels, shaping the sculptural cuts. The flaking parts of the polychrome and underlay were glued and hardened.

It was decided to leave the statue without major sculptural reconstructions as an object documenting the only surviving element of the pulpit. The last activity of the direct work on the object was to mount the sculpture on a wooden plinth so that it could be displayed in the church.
