Polish Chapel in the Church of St Joachim in Rome

The Polish Chapel is located in the Church of St Joachim in Rome (exact address: Piazza dei Quiritti 17). It was designed and built by Fr Bernard Lupienski in 1899. It is built of brick, square in plan and has a domed vault. It was decorated by Attilio Palombi. The altar depicts Polish saints such as St. Adalbert and St. Jadwiga of Silesia, with an image of Our Lady of Czestochowa in the background.

The left side wall shows St. Stanislaus the Bishop resurrecting Peter, on the vault St. Stanislaus Kostka receiving Holy Communion from an angel, and in the pendentives images of St. Kinga, Blessed Bronislawa, Blessed Władysław of Gielniów and Blessed Jolenta Helena.

The church has fourteen national chapels, named after the countries that contributed to its decoration (including Portugal, Kanda, Brazil, the USA, Spain or France).
