The battles for Lopatyn during the Polish-Bolshevik war lasted from the 3rd decade of July to the middle of August 1920. Polish soldiers killed in these battles were buried at the local cemetery in 4 common graves surrounded by a wall. On 2.09.1926, a monument was unveiled next to the graves, erected through the efforts of the Society for the Care of Heroes' Graves. After several months, on 3.12.1927, the exhumed remains of soldiers buried in Cyganówka and its vicinity were also buried here.
The composition of the monument consists of an 8-10 m high obelisk in the shape of a quadrilateral tapering pinnacle, resting on a several-step base. Inscriptions are placed on the front side, with the figure of an eagle with outstretched wings above. On either side of the obelisk, at a distance of several metres, tall candles in the shape of flower cups were placed on perpendicular bases. The inscriptions proclaim: "Pro Patria" // "Honour / 135 / Polish / heroes / fallen / 1920".
Both the graves and the monument were destroyed after 1939. In 1994, the Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom Remembrance carried out a renovation of the quarters. In the following years, the soldiers' graves were obliterated and only the magnificent main monument remained. Its next renovation was carried out in 2017. The work was carried out by the MOSTY Foundation within the framework of a task co-financed by the programme of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage 'Sites of National Remembrance Abroad'.
