Jerzy Białecki

First name:
Jerzy
Last Name:
Białecki
Date of death:
1987
Profession:
stained glass artist
Biography:

Between 1965 and 1986, he created stained glass windows in many American churches; some are also characterised by the exotic Polish iconography there, such as the group in the Church of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown.

In 1966, he began work on a design for a stained glass window at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown. His design was accepted by the Willet Studio of Stained Glass Windows in Philadelphia, which produced all of the stained glass under the designer's direction. The magnificent composition (40x50 feet) is considered one of the largest in the United States. As you enter the sanctuary, American history unfolds on the right, on the east wall, while on the left, on the west wall, the thousand-year history of Poland is depicted in beautiful colours. Each of the stained glass windows consists of seventy-five panels. The theme of the stained glass compositions was designed by Father Michał Zembrzuski, architect Jerzy Szeptycki and their collaborators.

Białecki died in 1987 and was buried in the honorary cemetery at the Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown.
