Information about the object:
Tombstones of soldiers of the Vilnius District of the ZWZ-AK who died or were killed in the Vilnius Region, in particular participants of the Vilnius Uprising of 1944. - Operation "Ostra Brama".

Completed works:
The project was realised thanks to the work carried out by members of the Association and volunteers from Polish communities in Lithuania. The participation of volunteers from Poland in the work directly at the memorial sites was not possible due to the introduction of restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic (temporary closure of borders, quarantine, etc.).

Within the framework of the project 20 volunteers recruited from the youth of 3 Polish schools in the Vilnius region - partners of the project - together with their tutors and historians visited, cleaned and documented in the form of descriptions of memorial sites with photographic documentation the following necropolises with graves of soldiers of the Vilnius District of the Home Army, especially those rarely visited and remembered by Poles:

1) Vilnius region, Vilnius district, until 1939 Vilnius-Trotsky district, Vilnius province:

(a) Miedniki (Medininkai) - 4 graves of Home Army soldiers who died in battles with NKVD units in 1944;

(b) Piktokańce (Piktakonys) - 2 graves of AK soldiers;

(c) Rudamina (Rudamina) - 2 graves of soldiers who died in early July 1944;

(d) Skorbutėnai (Skorbutėnai) - next to the historic wooden church - a plot of the 7th Brigade of the AK consisting of 16 graves (including several symbolic ones) of AK soldiers;

(e) Vilnius, Kolonia Wileńska Cemetery - a cemetery for soldiers of the Vilnius Region of the Home Army killed in the Operation "Ostra Brama" and who died in the field hospital in Kolonia Wileńska (from the 3rd "Szczerbiec" Brigade, the 8th Brigade of the Home Army).Szczerbiec" Brigade, 8th "Tura" Home Army Brigade, 1st, 3rd and 5th Battalion of 77th Infantry Regiment of the Home Army and the Reconnaissance Detachment of the Home Army Command "Grom") and 6 individual graves;

f) Vilnius, Szeszkinie cemetery - 3 graves of soldiers of the Vilnius Garrison of the AK killed in the Operation "Ostra Brama" in July 1944;

(g) Porudomino, old Catholic cemetery - 2 graves of Home Army soldiers;

2) Šalčininkai district, Vilnius county - until 1939 Vilnius-Troki district, Vilnius province:

(a) Popiškės (Popiškės) near Rudniki - 2 graves of fallen soldiers of the 6th Home Army Brigade - victims of an ambush on 13.10.1943 prepared for their unit by Latvians;

(b) Rudniki (Rudninkai), deep in the Rudnicka Forest - memorial site of the death of 26 soldiers of the unit of Lt. Czeslaw Stankiewicz (pseud. "Komar"), who suffered death on 6.01.1945 in a battle with NKVD troops.
