Information about the object:
The Kingdom of Romania was a so-called "little homeland" for Polish Armenians. Many Armenian families owned large landed estates in Romania, where they cultivated maize and specialised in breeding pigs and horned cattle. In the case of cattle breeding, there are known examples of cooperation between family clans living in Romania, Transylvania, Moldova and the area of present-day Ukraine. Cattle were driven from Romania to the Ukrainian highlands and sold at markets by Armenian families in the above-mentioned areas. This contributed to the creation of large Armenian fortunes, and representatives of wealthy families were keen to fund churches and establish emoluments for their pastors. Thanks to such donors, Armenian clusters developed in, among other places, the villages mentioned in the project.

Completed works:
The project involved conducting an 11-day volunteer camp in Romania, in the town of Botoshany, during which inventory work was carried out in the cemeteries of Seret, Suceava and Botoshany. Traces of Polish Armenians in Iaşi were also sought.

Inventory cards were established for all inventoried gravestones of Polish Armenians and a full photographic documentation of these objects.

Funding: Polonika Institute programme "Polish cultural heritage abroad - volunteering".
