Information about the object:
Zamarstynov cemetery is located in the northern part of Lviv, in the szczewczenkowski district (in Zamarstynov). The oldest part is the municipal cemetery where the Polish inhabitants of Zamarstynow were buried. The second part is the cemetery of German soldiers and prisoners of war, and the third is the cemetery of prisoners and those murdered in the Zamarstynov prison, who are buried in mass graves.

After the repatriation of Poles in 1944-1946, the Polish part of the cemetery began to fall into disrepair, the earthen graves began to collapse and the tombs to deteriorate. In 1967 part of the Polish cemetery and mass graves were cleared with heavy equipment. A school, sports facilities and garages were built there, as well as a KGB captain's villa. An orchard was planted on part of the cemetery. It was not until 1996 that the first exhumation work was carried out, but only 20 bodies were found. The work was soon discontinued and it is expected that several thousand prisoners were buried in the 2.79 ha area. In the civilian section, it is difficult to determine the number of destroyed gravestones.

The cemetery located at the fork of Warszawska Street in Holosko is the least known cemetery in Lviv in the public consciousness, and it is located about 20 minutes on foot from the equally forgotten Zamarstynowsky Cemetery. It contains the graves of local villagers (and more) and a mass grave of Polish soldiers who fought against the Germans in September 1939.

Holosko is a village incorporated into Lviv in 1930. On 15-16 September 1939, it was the site of dramatic battles for Lviv involving the 35th infantry division of the Polish Army. A commemorative plaque in the deserted cemetery mentions 900 dead. Only a few soldiers killed in September 1939 are marked by name on the mass grave. Only a metal cross stands there.
