This collection, extremely valuable in artistic and historical terms, has not yet been comprehensively compiled and popularised. The publication of a bilingual Polish-Ukrainian catalogue brought the figures connected with Polish history, as well as its cultural, scientific and religious life, closer. The task was an example of activities aimed at documenting objects of Polish cultural heritage abroad, as a testimony to Polish history and an element shaping contemporary attitudes and building historical awareness.

The aim of the work was to publish the first volume of the catalogue presenting the collection of portraits of Polish personalities and those connected with Poland, which is kept in the collection of the B. Woźnicki Lviv National Art Gallery.

2022
The result of the task of the Association of Polish Education and Culture is the publication of the first volume of the catalogue presenting the collection of portraits of Polish personalities. The collection is kept in the collection of the B. Woznicki Lviv National Art Gallery and is extremely valuable artistically and historically. To date, however, it has not been comprehensively compiled and popularised.

The project is the culmination of many years of work devoted to the collection of portraits of Polish personalities in the collection of the Lviv National Art Gallery. As part of the task, the museum collection was catalogued, and a photographic inventory of the paintings in the Lviv gallery and its branches in Olesko and Zloczow was carried out. Cataloguing entries and biographies of the portrayed persons were elaborated, archival and library searches in Poland and Ukraine were carried out, a preliminary substantive editing of the Polish text was made, and the catalogue text was translated into Ukrainian. The publication will popularise iconographic sources concerning the history of Poland from the 16th to the 20th century and will bring closer figures associated with Polish history, as well as its cultural, scientific and religious life.
