The monument to Adam Mickiewicz, designed by Antoni Popiel, was built through the efforts of the Polish Lvivians. It was built in 1902-1904 and unveiled on October 30, 1904. It depicts Mickiewicz at the base of a column. A winged genius hovers above the poet. The column is crowned with a candle. On 22 November 1920 at its foot Marshal Jozef Pilsudski received the parade of the army, the November defenders, and decorated the coat of arms of Lviv with the Virtuti Militari Cross.
