Ludwik Mlokosiewicz Nature Reserve in Lagodechi

The Ludwik Mlokosiewicz Nature Reserve is located in Lagodechi, Georgia. Mlokosiewicz (1831-1909) was a Polish zoologist and botanist, an explorer of the Caucasus. He joined the Russian Army as a volunteer and served precisely in the Caucasus. He laid out an ornamental park in Lagodechi, next to the granizon. In 1878, he became a forester in this village, and held this position until his retirement. Several species of animals were named after the researcher. The authorities of the Lagodechi Nature Reserve decided to make him their patron, hence the reserve is named after the Polish researcher. A stone plaque commemorating him was placed on the façade of the building, with a portrait and an inscription in Polish and Georgian.
