In Uzbekistan, in the small village of Shahrisabz, there is a Polish War Cemetery. The cemetery is home to 256 soldiers and civilians - former prisoners of war and prisoners of Soviet camps. Established in 1942, its condition deteriorated until 2001. Then, thanks to the efforts of the Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom Sites, the cemetery was rebuilt. Today it is under the care of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The cemetery contains tombstones, as well as a commemorative obelisk with inscriptions in Polish and Uzbek.
