In the village of Piniega in the Arkhangelsk region of the Russian Federation, there is a memorial to the Poles deported to Siberia in 1940. An inscription in Polish and Russian informs: "To the memory of Poles exiled to the Pinezh region who rested forever in this land as a tribute to the good people - Russians who brought help to our compatriots in hard times thanks to which they were given the opportunity to return to their homeland". The monument was unveiled in 2012, on the anniversary of the adoption of the decree on the amnesty of Polish citizens, thanks to the efforts of Polish historian Jacek Matecki and the Polish community in the Arkhangelsk region. A major contribution to the realisation was made by Galina Aleksandrovna Danilova. The monument is an integral part of the Memorial commemorating all victims of political repression. The sculpture, made of black granite, depicts three crosses standing sideways. The crosses are indented, resembling spruce silhouettes in the light. Instead of the vertical beam of the left cross, a slab has been installed at the front, on which a text in Polish and Russian has been embossed.
