In Aachen there is a gravestone of Gizela Szancerowa, a prominent Polish art historian. Szancerowa served as director of the Central Office of Art Exhibitions "Zachęta" from 1954 to 1969. In 1971, she and her husband left Poland. They emigrated to Jülich near Aachen, where they lived until their death. They were buried in the Jewish cemetery in Aachen.
