The building of the Galician Savings Bank in Lviv (now the Museum of Ethnography and Arts Industry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Prospect Svobody 15) was built in 1889-1891 by architect Zygmunt Kedzierski, according to a project and under the direction of Julian Octavian Zachariewicz (1837-1898), on the site of the former English Hotel. This was not the first premises of this oldest Galician credit institution, established on the initiative of the National States in 1842 and officially opened on 1 January 1844. It was initially housed in the town hall, and later at 2 Majerowska Street (now Sich Strzelców Siczowych Street).

From 1 October 1891, the venerable institution continued to operate in its new location. In 1900, the Galician Savings Bank building was described in the magazine "Architekt. Monthly magazine devoted to architecture, construction and the art industry" (No. 1): "The author of this work is the late Julian Lwigród Zacharjewicz, professor of architecture at the Lviv Polytechnic. In 1888 a large competition was held for the plans of this building, from which the winners were: Stryjeński and Ekielski (1st prize), Fryderyk Ohmann (2nd prize), and Fryderyk Ohmann (2nd prize). Fryderyk Ohmann, with the third prize. Sławomir Odrzywolski. In addition, plans by Messrs Szyller and Jabłoński, Władysław Halicki and Jan Zamiejski were purchased. The management of the Gal. However, the management of the Gal. Savings Bank recommended that the construction be carried out by the late Zacharjewicz. (...) On the first floor above the contribution fund there is a meeting room, above the liquidation office the office of the trustee, the mortgage director, above the treasurer, the rooms of the cash director, correspondents and partly the liquidation office, there is the bookkeeping office. The façade is made of Ternopil stone from "Tapkovsky" (the master craftsman Gora in Lvov) and yellow brick, the roofs are covered with slate, framed with copper sheet, lavishly gilded, the main staircase received an alabaster balustrade, the majolica on the façade was made by the National Experimental Station under the direction of engineer Krzesz, and the dome group by the late Marconi. Particularly noteworthy are the iron grilles made in the workshop of Mr Daschka in Lvov - the building is very well equipped".

The set of twenty-one stained glass windows for the Galician Savings Bank was made by the well-known and respected company "Tiroler Glasmalerei und Mosaik Anstalt", founded in Innsbruck in 1861 by Georg Mader, Josef von Stadl and Albert Neuhauser. The stained-glass window, which underwent restoration work in 2014, was created in 1892 as a decoration for the ceiling plafond of one of the main halls of the former Galician Savings Bank. The stained-glass plafond, which is a source of additional lighting for this room, is circular in plan, made of twelve identical segments, radiating radially from a central circular part and surrounded by a decorative border.

The restoration work was carried out in 2014. Cultural Heritage Foundation thanks to funding from the Programme of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage 'Protection of Cultural Heritage Abroad. They were carried out by a team consisting of Ewelina and Robert Kędzielewski.
