Biography:

Alfred Lenica (1899-1977) was a Polish painter associated with the Kraków artistic community centred around Tadeusz Kantor. He took part in the legendary First Exhibition of Modern Art in Krakow in 1948, was a co-founder of the post-war avant-garde group 4F+R and a member of the Krakow Group, active since 1965. In his art, he gradually broke away from realism, drawing on Cubism, Tashism, Abstractionism, Surrealism and Dripping. He was keen to use lacquer and industrial paints, adding variety to the texture of his paintings.
