In St Joseph's Church on Kahlenberg in Vienna, there is a plaque commemorating King John III Sobieski. It was from Kahlenberg Hill that he commanded the victorious Battle of Vienna against the Turks in 1683.

The inscription in German and Polish reads:

"To John III Sobieski, King of Poland, Commander-in-Chief of the Allied Forces, on the three hundredth anniversary of the Battle of Vienna in defence of Christianity, grateful countrymen with the Congregation of the Resurrectionist Fathers. 12 SEPTEMBER 1983".
