Catacombs of the Immaculate Conception Sisters in Jazloviec

The tomb in the form of catacombs was built in 1874. It is located away from the monastery buildings and in the western end of the park adjacent to the former Poniatowski Palace. The tomb is built into the slope of a promontory formed by a bend in the Jazlovský Brook.

Among others, the founder of the Immaculate Convent, Blessed Sister Marcelina Darowska, is buried in the catacombs. The Jazłowiec monastery was in fact the first house of this congregation.

The last burials in the catacombs took place in 1944 and concerned two sisters who had been murdered by Ukrainian nationalists from the OUN-UPA. After that, the sisters had to leave the monastery. They regained it in 1990.
