Sculpture by Henryk Dmochowski at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia

Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia features a sculpture by Henryk Dmochowski, depicting a young mother holding her two children in her arms. Dmochowski, a well-known sculptor originally from Poland and settled in Philadelphia, created this white marble monument as a tribute to his late family after the tragic death of his young wife in childbirth. After the monument was erected in 1858, Dmochowski returned to Poland, where he took part in the January Uprising in 1863. He died during a military skirmish.
