Villa "La Romantica" in Budrio

In Budrio, near Bologna, there are the ruins of a villa known as 'La Romantica'. The building, dating from around the 16th century, was destroyed during the Second World War.

In the 18th century, the property passed into the hands of General Joseph Grabinski, a prominent activist of the Bologna Risorgimento, who owned estates in the province of Bologna. After the sale of the villa in 1830, it passed into the hands of Colonel Luigi Cocchi.

In 1997, it was decided to build new houses on the land where the villa 'La Romantica' stands, but this project was not realised. It is now almost completely ruined.

Grabinski died in 1842 in San Martino, Argine. He was buried in Bologna and his chapel is located in the Certosa cemetery.
