Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Cacica

Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Cacica - a Roman Catholic church built in 1904 by Poles living in the village of Cacica (now Cacica) to a design by Teodor Talowski. In 2000, Pope John Paul II gave it the title of basilica minor.

In 1810, thanks to the support of the salt mine administration, Father Jakub Bogdanowicz built the first church. It was then that the Roman Catholic parish of Kaczyce was established.

From the beginning of the parish all priests were Polish. From 1902 to 1967 the church was looked after by missionary priests from Krakow. In 1973 Romanian priests took over the rectory.

In 1904, a copy of the "miraculous icon" of Our Lady of Czestochowa was brought to the church from the Armenian-Catholic church in Stanislawow. The icon measures 86 × 60 cm.
