In Berlin, next to the Reichstag building, there is a fragment of the Gdansk Shipyard wall. The monument, a symbol of the overthrow of communism in Europe, was unveiled on 17 June 2009 by the Speaker of the Sejm, Bronisław Komorowski, and the President of the German Bundestag, Norbert Lammert, in the presence of Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The plaque on the wall bears an inscription in Polish and German:

"To commemorate the Solidarity struggle for freedom and democracy and Poland's contribution to the reunification of Germany and the political unity of Europe".
