Solidarity commemorative plaque at the Place des Invalides in Paris

The Solidarity commemorative plaque on Invalides Square in Paris refers to the events following the imposition of martial law in Poland in 1981. Numerous demonstrations took place in France, especially in Paris, in response to this decision. On 15 December 1981, more than 100,000 Parisians took part in a protest. Since then, the Place de l'Invalides has become a regular site for demonstrations. It was an ideal place for such actions, as the embassy and consulate of the People's Republic of Poland were located opposite. Just a few weeks later, an iron cross and a plaque were erected at the site to commemorate the victims of martial law repression in Poland. Until 1989, supporters of democratic change in Poland gathered around this site.
