Podolske Skala Castle

Skała Podolska | Ukraine

The castle at Skala Podolska in Ukraine was built in the 1470s on the initiative of the then owners of Podolia, the Koriatovich family. In 1515, the castle passed into the hands of Stanisław of Brzezie Lanckoroński (1465-1535), who, at the request of King Sigismund the Old, carried out its expansion. In the 16th century, as a result of the Tartar invasions, the castle suffered considerable degradation, but it was consistently rebuilt. It remained in the hands of the Lanckoroński family until 1706, and then passed into the possession of the Tarło family. Later, a two-storey palace was added not far from the castle.
