Biography:

Jan Edward Matuszyński (1808-1842) - Polish physician, participant in the November Uprising, decorated with the Virtuti Militari Cross. A graduate in medicine from the Faculty of Medicine at Warsaw University, he received his doctorate in 1834 on the basis of his work 'Über die Natur und Behandlung des Weichselzopfes' at the University of Tübingen, and then again in 1837 for his work in physiology 'De l'influence du nerf sypmathique sur les fonctions des sens' at the École de Médicine. A close friend and confidant of Frédéric Chopin, he shared a flat with him at the Chausée d'Antin in 1834.
