The burial site was originally marked by a cross stylised as a tree trunk, supported by the figure of a kneeling angel on a high foundation. The angel kneels supporting the base of the cross with two hands. On his chest an oval panel, possibly from a photograph. The foundation is made of red sandstone blocks. Preserved from the cross is the lower fragment of a vertical arm with a moulded plaque on which is an engraved inscription.
