A former Benedictine monastery, founded by Ehrenfried Ezzon, father of Rycheza. Rycheza was queen of Poland, wife of Mieszko II. She died in the Brauweiler monastery in 1063. Her relics are located here.
The monastery buildings are now the seat of the Office for the Protection of Rhenish Monuments.
