Tombstone, sculpture and portrait of Maria Clementina Sobieska in the Vatican Basilica

Maria Klementyna Sobieska (1701-1735) was the daughter of James Sobieski and granddaughter of John III Sobieski. She married Prince James Stuart, a pretender to the Scottish and English thrones. She was buried in the vaults of St Peter's Basilica at the Vatican. In the basilica itself, in the left nave closer to the staircase leading to the dome, there is a statue and portrait of Mary Clementine and an inscription: 'Mary Clementine, Queen of Great Britain, France and Ireland'.
The monument to the late Maria Clementina Sobieska was funded by Clement XII and Benedict XIV. The designer was Filippo Barigioni, the sculptures were made by Pietro Bracci and the portrait was painted by Fabbio Cristofani.
