St Andrew's Church on the Quirinal. St. Andrew's Church on the Quirinal

Variants of the name:
Basilica Sant'Andrea al Quirinale

A Polish Jesuit, Stanislaus Kostka spent his novitiate in Rome. He died at the age of 18 in 1568. The church houses a sarcophagus with the saint's relics. His former room was turned into a chapel after his death, where you can see the saint's memorabilia. In the chapel is the statue-tomb "Death of St Stanislaus Kostka" by Pierre Le Gros the Younger. It stands on the spot where Stanislaus Kostka died and depicts the saint lying on his deathbed. Above the sculpture hangs a painting depicting Our Lady dropping roses from heaven on the saint. Below the painting is an engraved poem by Cyprian Kamil Norwid.
Also in the church is Carl Maratta's painting 'The Apparition of the Madonna and Child to St Stanislaus Kostka' from the 17th century.
