Multi-faith cemetery in Gródek Jagielloński

Gródek Jagielloński | Ukraine
ukr. Horodok (Городок); w latach 1906–1945: Gródek Jagielloński
The cemetery (called Catholic in Hauser's) in Gródek Jagielloński was probably established at the beginning of the second half of the 19th century, based on tombstone data. The former spatial layout with a main avenue and side alleys has been preserved. It is still active and kept in fairly good condition, but a few days before Hauser's visit (probably around 2007, the date of the book's publication) a hurricane caused damage to some of the gravestones.

The cemetery is located in the eastern part of the city, on the right side of the road leading to Lviv.

Hauser draws attention to such tombstones as those of the Rawicz-Królicki family, with a stone obelisk and crossed life torches; Adolf Henze (died 1924), Franciszek Piotrowski (died 1907) and Róża z Podrackich Pfeifferowa (died 1902) with obelisks of black marble, or Zofia Dudekówna (died 1928), crowned with a sculpture of an angel.

There is also an eclectic chapel in the cemetery, maintained in good condition. "It is composed of two parts: a higher one (the nave) with an opilified façade and a gable decorated with volutes and turrets, and a lower, elongated one, which is the presbytery. Nearby there are three stone monuments on the graves of the Tyls, a cast-iron monument on the grave of Father Dominik Kutrzeba (died 1862) with rich neo-Gothic decoration, but unfortunately with its upper part broken, or the graves of Anna Herdyńska (died 1908) and Stanisław Iwanko (died 1911) with rocks.

Cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Documentation was made for the cemetery (154 cards, stored in the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage). Information about the cemetery published (see bibliography).
