Cemetery in Talnem

Talne | Ukraine
ukr. Talʹne (Тальне)

According to Zbigniew Hauser, the cemetery in Talnem, which is located near the parish church, contains 16 grave monuments, 14 of which have Polish inscriptions. The cemetery was probably established around the mid-19th century and has an area of about 0.5 ha. The oldest is a child's gravestone with the date of death 1862, and only one of the monuments, was created in the 20th century. Unfortunately, the tombstones have not been preserved in a satisfactory condition; on the contrary, they are broken, overturned and lacking important fragments.

In the courtyard of the palace, which belonged to the Russian aristocracy, there is, among others, the shattered sarcophagus of Sophia Glavani-Potocka (1760-1822), the notorious 'beautiful Bithynia'. According to Hauser, the custodian of Talnem Castle managed to salvage and relocate the upper fragments of the sarcophagus from its original site (an Orthodox church turned into a bakery).
