Cemetery in Dobromil

Dobromil | Ukraine
ukr. Dobromyl (Добромиль)
Judging by the dates on the tombstones, the Catholic cemetery in Dobromil was probably founded in the early 19th century, making it one of the oldest cemeteries in the area. It is located in the northern part of the town, on the picturesque hills. It is still active and well maintained. The former spatial layout with alleys has partially survived.

According to Hauser, there are many valuable tombstones there such as the one belonging to Francisca von Walth (d. 1817), which is one of the oldest. It is a stately monument topped by a large vase entwined with a garland of flowers. It also draws attention to the tall obelisk on the grave of Edward Brodowicz, decorated with coat-of-arms cartouches and in a cast-iron fence; the imposing two-storey monument on the grave of the mining engineer Franciszek Prus Saszewski (d. 1926) and his wife or the three-storey tomb of Folczyk and Kędzierski.

In the centre of the cemetery is an eclectic chapel dating from 1905, "topped with a signature, with a portico supported by two massive columns".

Meanwhile, to the right of the entrance is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, restored before 2007 and dedicated to those who died between 1914 and 1920, topped with a tall cross.
The 1938 guidebook "South-Eastern Poland", which Hauser refers to, mentions a military cemetery, but he did not find it.

Documentation was made for the cemetery (290 tombstone cards) and a cemetery card (stored in the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage). Information about the cemetery published (see bibliography)
