Yampol cemetery

Jampol | Ukraine
ukr. Jampilʹ (Ямпіль)

The cemetery in Jampol nad Horyn is situated in the western part of the town around a chapel from the turn of the 20th century. It is actually a remnant of the cemetery because its tree-lined grounds now serve as a recreational area. According to Zbigniew Hauser, it is likely that the burial chapel was built for the Chodkiewicz family or another noble family from the area. Three tombstones have survived near the chapel, one of them in good condition and with a legible inscription. This is a tombstone in the form of a knotted tree with a knotted cross on the grave of Stanisław Kazimierz Kinastowski, a medical student who died in 1899. The other two gravestones are damaged and the inscriptions incomplete.

Zbigniew Hauser mentions that on the other side of the Horyń River, two kilometres from the centre, there is a dome-covered two-storey burial chapel of the Sieniut family from the 16th century.

Documentation has been prepared for the cemetery (11 sheets, stored in the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage) and a conservation opinion. Information about the cemetery published (see bibliography).
