There is a gravestone of Maria Antonina Czaplicka, a Polish ethnographer and anthropologist, in Oxford Cemetery. She was buried in the cemetery according to her own wishes. The inscription on her gravestone reads: To the memory of Maria Antonina Czaplicka / Born in Warsaw on 25 October 1884 / Died in Bristol on 27 May 1921 / Jesus have mercy on her.The gravestone in the form of a cross on a plinth and base with an inscription (now reverted, 2022) and a band. Other Poles are also buried in the Oxford cemetery.
