Polish colony in Fram, Paraguay

The settlement was founded on 20 March 1927 by Peter Christophersen, an Argentine diplomat and businessman of Norwegian origin. Cristophersen divided the purchased land into plots of land and sold the land to prospective emigrants, advertising in the Eurasian press. What was the reason for choosing Paraguay, which was, after all, very exotic for Polish emigrants? There were two reasons - economic - low costs and the lack of a high age limit - men up to the age of 55 were accepted. A significant part of the first colonists in Fram were emigrants from Eastern Europe - Poles as well as Ukrainians and Russians. Poles arrived mainly from the area of Cieszyn Silesia. It is estimated that on the eve of the Second World War, approximately 1,000 Poles lived at the Farm. One of the most important investments was the start, in 1938, of the construction of a Polish church. The building was completed in 1941.

In 1932, the counting and educational association "Unity" was founded. Colonia Fram gained the status of an independent municipality on 28 August 1956.

Earlier, former insurgent Luis Myszkowski had arrived in Paraguay and led the construction of Paraguayan ports.
