Biography:

Erna Rosenstein (1913-2004), born in Lvov, painter, poet. She studied at the Wiener Frauenakademie (1932-1934), then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow under Wojciech Weiss (1934-1936). In 1938 she was in Paris, where she became acquainted with Surrealist painting. She survived the war by hiding under assumed names in Warsaw and Częstochowa. After the war, she co-founded the Krakow Group. She settled in Warsaw in 1949 and began publishing volumes of poetry in 1972. She is the winner of the Cyprian Kamil Norwid Award (1976) and the Jan Cybis Award (1996).
