On 22 or 23 September 1939, a group of Polish officers retreating from the eastern border stopped at the manor house of the Rymkiewicz family, located on the outskirts of Buchowicz. After staying there for several hours, the group was attacked by the local population, led by communist provocateurs. The attackers were armed with rifles, pitchforks and shovels. A Soviet tank came to the aid of the attackers. During a brief skirmish, one of the Soviets was killed. The remaining Soviet soldiers shot all the Polish officers out of revenge, who, seeing that they had no chance of defending themselves, capitulated. Several of them, still alive, were beaten to death with shovels by the local communist progenitors, who stripped them of their uniforms and took their shoes. The bodies of the murdered Polish officers were buried with earth a short distance from the road. After the Second World War, the grave was ploughed over. Originally, a birch cross was placed on it. In 1994, the chairman of the regional board of the Union of Poles in Belarus, Antoni Filipczuk, was informed of this crime and the place where the officers were buried by the Russian Grigory Kostrzejev. As a result, a black metal cross was placed on the found grave, with no inscription on it.
