Cemetery in Hruszówka

Cemetery with the Rejtans' burial chapel. Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography). As Lewkowski and Walczak write, in Hruszówka there is "a neo-Gothic burial chapel of the Rejtan family. (...) Around the chapel there is a rectangular cemetery field, surrounded by a plastered brick wall covering an area of approx. 850 m2. (...) The chapel is built of brick, plastered, with rusticated elevations. Built on a rectangular plan with a trilateral closed apse. (...) The single-space interior is completely destroyed, fragmentary ribs of the mesh vault have been preserved. Crypt destroyed, floor and ceiling on crypt torn off. At present it is a huge open space up to the crypt floor. In the north-east corner of the cemetery field is a large granite boulder with an oval metal plaque with a commemorative text hanging from a chain at the top: "/ TADEUSZ REJTAN / SON OF THIS LAND / BORN 20.08.1742. IN HRUSZÓWKA AND DIED HERE / 8.08.1780. AS A MEMBER OF THE NOVGOROD SEJM / WARSAW SEJM 1773. PROTESTED AGAINST / APPROVAL OF THE FIRST PARTITION OF THE REPUBLIC / OF POLAND. PERSECUTED FOR THIS ACT, HE PAID FOR THE MISFORTUNE / OF HIS HOMELAND WITH HIS HEALTH AND LATER WITH HIS LIFE. / WAS A MODEL OF PATRIOTISM FOR MANY GENERATIONS / OF POLES. HONOUR HIS MEMORY."
