Cemetery in Kamień

Kamień | Belarus
biał. Kamienʹ (Камень)
Cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography). According to Lewkowski and Walczak, "on the south side of the church cemetery, under the wall, there are four tombstones of priests." These are Rev. Jan Zarako-Zarakowski (parish priest, died 1926), Rev. Julian Białyni-Ławrynowicz (parish priest, died 1935) and Rev. Leopold Auchlich (parish priest) and Rev. Kazimierz Rybałtowski, who were shot by the Germans on 24 July. It is worth noting the inscription from the Cross of the Guard of Polish Graves: "TO THE SOLDIERS OF THE STOLPEC-NALIBOK GROUPING OF THE NATIONAL ARMY / FALLEN IN BATTLE UNDER THE STONE".

There is another cemetery in Kamień, according to Lewkowski and Walczak, "an active Catholic cemetery (...) set up in a roughly rectangular plan (...), fenced with a stone wall, with an entrance gate from the south, covering an area of 0.6 ha. The cemetery is dominated by burials from the 1st half of the 20th century. The cemetery was established in the middle of the 19th century; several tombstones from the 2nd half of the 19th century have survived (...) The state of preservation of the cemetery is good.". The oldest gravestone, from 1860, belongs to Maria Kuczykówna and has the form of an iron cross with openwork arms. The plaque with the inscription is located under the statue of Christ and reads: "Here rests the unlamented child / MARYA KUCZYKÓWNA / DIED ON NOVEMBER 12, 1860 / AT EIGHT YEARS OLD / UNMORTIFIED IN Mourning / THE PARENTS / COMMIT TO HER MEMORY THIS CEMETERY / PLEASE PRAISE FOR HER DEATH / FOR HER DEAD FOR SACRIFICE". It is worth noting the inscription from Benigna Voroniczowa's gravestone: "D . O. M. / CIENIOM / BENIGNY WORONICZOWA / UMAR. 1877 R. / MARCH 14 / AGED 64".
