Cemetery in Łuczaj

1 The church cemetery, located next to the Church of St. Thaddeus the Apostle dating from 1766-1776, is situated on a rectangular square. It preserves a group a of three tombstones, enclosed by a chain-link. The oldest of these is a granite cross on a pedestal, on the grave of Father Lubomir Gadon from 1902. The inscription has been preserved: / PRIEST/ LUBOMIR/ GADON/ PARISH PRIEST OF ŁUCZAJSKI/ BORN. 24 OCTOBER 1869/DIED. 26 JULY 1902/ "BLESSED ARE THE DEAD/ WHO DIE IN THE LORD"/.
The active Catholic cemetery (former parish cemetery), established in the second half of the 19th century, is located on the shore of Lake Luczaj. The cemetery has a rectangular ground plan and is situated on a slight hill. It occupies an area of 1.17 ha and is fenced with a metal fence. The entrance gate is located on the eastern side. A path on an axis runs through the cemetery, dividing the establishment into a new and an old part. The oldest dated gravestone, a cast-iron cross on a granite boulder, belongs to Helena Bułowska. It dates from 1881 and bears the following inscription: / Ś. P. ZESZŁA Z TEGO ŚWIATA/ HELENA BUŁOWSKA/ 1881 R./. According to sources, a chapel was erected in the cemetery in 1805. However, no trace of it has survived.
Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography).
