Biography:

Abraham Bosse (1604-1676), born in Tours, French engraver, painter and art theorist, member and lecturer of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture. From 1620 he trained under the engraver Melchior Tavernier. In 1628 he made the acquaintance of Jacques Callot, which had a significant influence on his work. In 1648, he became one of the founders of the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture, where he taught the principles of perspective. In 1661, however, he was expelled from the Academy for opposing the aesthetics promoted by Jean-Baptiste Colbert and Charles Le Brun.
