Biography:

Adam Gerżabek (1898-1965), born in Jasło, son of Antoni, painter, critic and teacher. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under Józef Mehoffer, then at the Paris branch under Józef Pankiewicz, at the same time learning the techniques of fresco and mosaic. Upon his return, he was active in the Krakow group 'Zwornik', then in Warsaw, where he taught at the Municipal School of Decorative Arts. In the Warsaw Uprising he lost his studio and his output. After the war, he was a professor at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, then taught in Poznań and Gdańsk. He created in the spirit of colourism. His works can be found, among others, in the collections of the National Museums in Warsaw, Krakow and Gdansk.
