Biography:

Aleksander Kobzdej (1920-1972), born in Olesko, son of Teofil and Karolina née Szlachetko, architect, painter, draughtsman, set designer, poster designer, illustrator and professor. From 1939 he studied architecture at the Lviv Polytechnic. At the same time, he studied painting with Władysław Lam. In 1944, he was deported to forced labour in Vienna, from where he escaped to Yugoslavia. After the war, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow under Professor Eugeniusz Eibisch. At the end of 1945, he became an assistant to Professor Władysław Lam at the Faculty of Architecture of the Gdansk University of Technology. While working, he graduated from the polytechnic with an engineering diploma. He taught at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Sopot (1947-1951) and later, until his death, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.
