Biography:

Aleksander Kucharski (1741-1819), born in Warsaw, son of Aleksander, painter. As a child he served at the court of Stanisław August Poniatowski. His painting teacher was Marcello Bacciarelli, and later in France at the Royal Academy he was taught by Joseph-Marie Viena and Carle van Loo. From 1776 to 1778, he was employed as a painter at the court of Louis Joseph de Bourbon-Condé. He produced many portraits and paintings commissioned by the French aristocracy, but also by the Polish, who began arriving in France after the marriage of Louis XV to Marie Leszczyńska. In 1789, he became court painter to Marie Antoinette of Austria. During the French Revolution, he sided with the monarchy. He spent the late years of his life near Paris, living off the pension granted to him by King Louis XVII. His wife was Marguerite Charvet, the marriage was childless (PSB vol. 16), and he died in the Maison de Sainte Perrine de Chaillot (J. Odrowąż-Pieniążek, "Polonica zbierane po świecie", Warsaw 1992, p. 177 pp. 179).
