Biography:

Aleksander Kucharski (1741-1819), born in Warsaw, painter. As a child he served at the court of Stanisław August Poniatowski. His painting teacher was Marcello Bacciarelli, and later in France at the Royal Academy he was taught by Joseph-Marie Viena and Carle van Loo. From 1776 to 1778, he was employed as a painter at the court of Louis Joseph de Bourbon-Condé. He produced many portraits and paintings commissioned by the French aristocracy, but also by the Polish, who began arriving in France after the marriage of Louis XV to Marie Leszczynska. In 1789, he became court painter to Marie Antoinette of Austria. During the French Revolution, he sided with the monarchy. He spent the late years of his life near Paris, living off the pension granted to him by King Louis XVII.
