Biography:

Aleksandryna Wołowska (1812-1905), born in Warsaw, daughter of Franciszek Wołowski, an advocate of the Court of Appeal of the Duchy of Warsaw, and Tekla. After the November Uprising, the Wołowski family went into exile in Paris.

Aleksandryna was a pianist, social activist and great admirer of Polish culture. As one of Fryderyk Chopin's last pupils, she had great musical talents. Together with Iza Działyńska and Celina Mickiewicz, she founded the Ladies' Benevolent Society of Poland, and was bridesmaid at the wedding of Adam Mickiewicz and Celina Szymanowska. All her life she remained strongly connected with Polish emigration, and her home was a meeting place for eminent Poles (PSB vol. 6).

In 1837, she married Léonard Joseph Faucher, a French journalist and politician, editor of the Journal Courier Français. The wedding took place on 18 July 1837 in Paris, in the presence of witnesses including General Karol Kniaziewicz and Aloysius Prosper Biernacki (AdP AM, Actes reconstitués de l'état civil de Paris).

After her husband's death, she continued her charitable and social activities. In 1895, she funded a donation to the Faculty of Medicine in Paris (Faculté de Médecine de Paris) to support Poles studying at the faculty (BullPol No. 79 of 1 March 1895, p. 46).

She died on 5 May 1905 in Paris, aged 93, at her home at 7 rue Léonie. After a funeral service at the Church de la Trinité, her body was buried in the Père Lachaise cemetery. Among those who attended the burial were family members, including Louis Passy, Félix Jasienski, Wladyslaw Mickiewicz, Jozef Mickiewicz, and numerous relatives and friends, including cousins and cousins (ZKwBP hourglass French; B.C. burial books).
