Biography:

Andrzej Józef Chwalibóg (1946), born in Gliwice. He studied architecture at the Silesian University of Technology. In 1973 he joined the Association of Polish Architects, in which he was active until 2000. From 1974 to 1982 he worked at the Faculty of Architecture of the Bialystok University of Technology. In 1980, he became involved in the activities of the Solidarity Trade Union. He took part in the strikes after the introduction of martial law. He was the author of the design for the altar prepared in Białystok for the visit of John Paul II. He also designed the Roman Catholic cathedral in Irkutsk, which was recognised as the best architectural project in Russia in 2000.
