Anna Biczysko - sculptor and painter

In 1986, she defended her diploma in sculpture at the State Higher School of Visual Arts in Gdansk (Academy of Fine Arts) under professor Franciszek Duszeńka. In 1987, an exhibition was held: 'Anna Węgrzyn, Ewa Bogucka - Relief. Sculpture. Drawing" at the El Gallery in Elbląg. She collaborated with Kantor Sztuki/Geidler Gallery in Gdańsk. In 1987-1990, she participated in the National Sculpture Plein-Air in Hajnówka and Orońsko and in open-air exhibitions. Since 1991, the artist has lived in Toronto. She is a co-founder of Canadian Polish Art Initiatives, an organisation aimed at integrating artists and creating collaborative ventures in the field of visual arts.

From 2002 to 2018, she curated many exhibitions on behalf of Canadian Polish Art Initiatives and Gallery7 in Toronto, also organising the 'Sunnyside Beach-Juried Art Show & Sale' and art actions as part of Toronto's Museum Night. The artist creates abstract sculptures in metal and does painting on Plexiglas. Her work also includes figurative sculptures and reliefs, drawings. She experiments with various techniques and materials in search of effects that surprise her. Space, nature, clouds, colour - these are themes that meet in Ania Biczysko's work. In the 'Force of Nature' series, the artist combined two media - a large steel sculpture with painting on Plexiglas.

In 1987, the artist received a twelve-month grant from the Ministry of Culture and the Arts; in 1993, her project was funded by the Toronto Arts Council. In 2014 she was awarded an honourable mention in the Markham Museum Sculpture Competition, and in 2019 the artist was invited to participate in Outdoor Art for Doyle in Halifax.

The artist is working on two large-scale sculptures for Oeno Gallery-installation for summer 2020. Anna Biczysko's works are in private collections in: Canada, Dominican Republic, France, Monaco, Norway, United Kingdom, United States and Poland.

Selected commissions: wall murals for Casino Windsor, Fort Erie/Mohawk; 2000-2001 - decorative panels for Showcase Cinemas in the US, UK and Argentina; collaboration from 2003-2006 with the Royal Ontario Museum - making artwork to accompany exhibitions; decorative work for the Ontario Hospital Association; bas-relief for Nanda & Associate Lawyers; mural for Gay Lea in Hamilton in 2018.
