Additional information:

Antoni Kozlowski, also Anthony Stanislaus Kozlowski (1857-1907), American clergyman of Polish origin, Old Catholic bishop. Born in Zakroczym, in 1894 he went on a pastoral mission to the Polish community in the USA. He became vicar at St Jadwiga Church in Chicago. He gained the sympathy of the faithful there, but came into conflict with the parish priest, Józef Barzyński. He began to collect votes from parishioners to take the pastor's place. The campaign failed and Kozlowski was suspended. In 1895, he founded an independent parish of All Saints and began building a church, which resulted in his excommunication. He took steps to unite similar parishes to his into one Church. In 1987, he organised a convention of representatives of Polish parishes in America, after which he was elected bishop. In the same year, he received the episcopal sacrament in Bern and entered into intercommunion with the Union of Utrecht, subsequently becoming the leader of the Old Catholic Diocese in the United States of America. These actions resulted in the imposition of a major excommunication on him by Pope Leo XIII. He convened the Synod of the Polish Catholic Church in 1898 and 1904, and at the turn of the century established dialogue with the Russian Orthodox Church in America and the Episcopal Church in the United States of America. He died in 1907. His church merged with the Polish National Catholic Church in 1909.
